My move to Germany

When I was moved to Germany, I thought I had made the biggest mistake of my life. All my friends were moving out of their parents’ houses and were starting their own life at college or getting jobs and moving out. I went overseas with my parents to live with them because I was not ready to leave my family also more importantly I was not ready for my entire family to be over three thousand miles away from me and in a completely different country. So going with them literally a month after graduation was a big decision for me.
The first couple of weeks I was here it was very depressing. I was always home, I didn't have any friends, and I was very lonely. I wanted to be back home and not in Germany at all. Then I got a job at Subway, no I didn't want to work there because I didn't want to work at a fast food place, but it was a start. Then I made some friends and started going out with them. That started to get better but I felt like I was doing nothing in my life. So then I started looking at colleges. The college I chose was UMUC Europe so I started taking classes. One was a hybrid so I was able to meet my classmates once a week. That also got me out of the house. Now I felt like I was doing something with my life, going towards a better future.  I still felt like I was a little kid living with my parents and not being independent. Then I got another job as a bartender. This really made my life better. Not because of the job itself, just that I met people my age and get to see the fun part of living in Germany. They invite me to go places downtown and showing me that Germany is a once in a lifetime deal. This is a beautiful country and I should make the most of it!

That’s when I realized I did make the right decision. College will always be in the states and I am still going to college here, but Germany is a once in a lifetime chance and I am enjoying it to the fullest, I am traveling and so many places are so close now! Paris is only 4 hours driving distance away! I could drive to Italy if I wanted to! Germany is giving me so much life experience that I would never get in the states going to college like the rest of my graduating class. I am so happy I listened to my parents and the fact that I do live with them and not in the dorms is saving me a ton of money that I can save up and spend on something important later on in life! I love that I still get to spend time with my family and I love that I can travel the world and still work on my future by taking online courses here. I think I made the best possible decision I could have ever made.
